(singing) Spam, spam, spam, spam
does anyone remember the Monty Python sketch where they kept talking/singing about to SPAM? (you gotta check out this clip - it's complete with Japanese subtitles - ha ha ha) i hum this song a lot. most oft it runs thru my head just before i click on my "spam" folder to empty it - yet again.what is SPAM anyway? not the email SPAM, but the so-called meat (blechko). the name is a conjugation of "spicy-ham." its rise to popularity is due primarily to WWII. did you know SPAM is huge in Hawai'i? they serve it with everything. "The most basic ingredient for a vast numbers of Polynesian and Cantonese-flavored dishes is SPAM in which the luncheon meat gets chunked, then combined with maraschino cherries, bell peppers, onions, snap peas, broccoli, carrots, eggplant, soy sauce, cans of bamboo shoots, and corn starch or the fastest and simplest approach is one piece of pineapple, this can changes SPAM to an exotic dish." anyway, just as in the sketch this lady is simply trying to conduct ordinary business and she keeps getting spammed. that's how i feel (i know i'm not alone - most often i feel slimed).
i don't generally think of myself as paranoid. but, i very rarely purchase things online. i've bought some things on Amazon and a super-great-techno-geek website for suuuuuper cheap gadgetry called NEWEGG. but, that's about it. however, somewhere, somehow i've been found. i'm getting all kinds of weird unwanted emails. the worst are notes from marc, donnie, ernesto, cornelius, thomas, rupert, and tanisha (as if these are real people) about the explicit wonders of Viagra-like products. aaarrrrggh.
but, Se La Vi in web-land. now i'm even more hesitant to make purchases online unless they are truly reputable companies (and even then i'm still not convinced - i actual am suspicious of NEWEGG in relation to the last batch of spam). i guess i shouldn't complain. one friend and another co-worker both say if they skip checking on their spam folder for a few days they'll accumulate hundreds of emails. what is to be done except daily cleaning out that folder. it seems like life you know? there's always thorns and weeds to be pulled, right? we have to clean up stuff we didn't mean to get into. that doesn't change the fact that some days i could stomach the actual processed-packaged meat better than the emails that come my way. oh, well i'm glad i have a very effective SPAM catcher and i just have to click the delete button and send it on down the road as i sing Monty Python song.

we were talking about SPAM emails at work today. my boss swears by a website called www.spambayes.com which works well with Outlook driven email systems. she said you get to select what kinds of things you deem as SPAM and it will filter out these kinds of emails and you never see it. hmmmm
I'm glad u sing while you erase your spam, that shows what a wonderful disposition you have..very congruent with the rest of you... being the pessemist i am i usually spend that time annoyed by all the seconds taken off my life by forcing me to attend to it. I think i'll try ur way next time and see if my outlook improves. We can compare tunes next time we hang.I still think my will have a punk tone to it but at least i'm singing.
aaah you'll have to listen to the clip/link. there's nothing punk about it. its a bunch of Viking-opera-wanna-be's. think of Carmen (the opera - not our German friend) ;-)
I love that sketch. One of my fave Monty Python moments.
I use spambayes too for a spam free existence :-)
one of my favorites too (the sketch, not the tinned meat). i sometimes blurt out "i don't like spam!" in the classic monty python tone of voice, only to be met with blank stares.
i currently have more than 800 spam, and right before i cam over here i decided to delete them later and was contemplating how annoying it was. it's a good weeks-worth, but i have no idea how it got so bad. sigh.
If you are ever in Minnesota, you really must go to the Spam museum. I have been twice. The most interesting thing is how seriously the employee's take their job. "Have you tried the BBQ spam, yet? Here's a sample" Tons of great Spam branded paraphernalia in the gift shop.
