busted!

"to be continued" was how i left off my last post and i will do so, just not tonite. rest assured, this post is much more light hearted and actually somewhat of a confession (or should i say confection - tee hee hee).
typically sweets aren't my downfall.....
... but when it comes to homemade fudge i cave.

in some of my last posts i've referred to the nice people at the office where i work. the week before Christmas you would've thought the law firm had turned into the North pole candy factory. there were homemade cookies and treats everywhere. on top of that, the monday before Christmas one of the lawyer's brought in a plate of sweets for each of us. he and his wife worked all weekend to make over forty plates of goodies. that monday was also the day after we had snow so a couple people couldn't make it into work. one of those that couldn't get to work was Jess. she and i are both office assistants so our desks are in the same room adjacent to our boss's room. the next day Jess flew home to Indiana to return to work after the new year. so her desk became piled with little presents, cards and plates of cookies, treats and FUDGE. no big deal i had my own fudge. at least for awhile. suffice it to say by the time she got back her plate no longer had the yummy homemade fudge on it. i didn't touch anything else and removed all evidence that there had ever been any fudge. besides it would be stale by the time she got back, what a waste.

well, tuesday after the new year when i came in, jess was already at her desk. she was talking to one of our co-workers about her trip home, the presents AND all treats that were left for her on her desk. just as i came in she made the comment "what fudge? you're the third person that has asked me if i liked the fudge i got?" i thought, "ooohhh noooo!" i had to tell the truth. so i just glibly said "oh, i ate it" as i past them to get to my desk.

can you believe it? they could've raved about so many other of the treats, but they only raved about the "Amanda's fudge". i was a bit ashamed, that i broke the 8th commandment and stole from my co-worker. but, it was her own fault for leaving for so long.... leaving her treats unattended. besides, she gets migraines from too much sugar, so i was really looking out for her right?

i've not lived this down, yet. now, i'm now the fudge bandit. i guess i could be worse things. i'm still doing penance to her each day. see
, crime doesn't pay (she wasn't really mad - we share stuff all the time).

I can't stop smiling imagining you contemplateing, planning and executing each piece of fudge. Those must have been some heavy days on the conscience. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to witness that but then again, you may have been distracted by the sound of the roaring laughter of a common house fly. You are great!

my conscience was pricked and asked her to forgive me - she just laughed at me.
