The "Christmas Spirit" complete with snow

Yesterday, it was awesome to look out my front window to see our dry, brisk, sub-freezing-level day turn into winter wonderland. At least for me it was nice as I was cozy on the couch knitting. But, elsewhere around town many travelers and last minute shoppers got stuck as the ice and snow caught them quite by suprise - traffic was at a standstill especially on the freeways. I don't remember the last time we had snow the week of "Incarnation Day". It really added to the "Christmas Spirit"at least for those of us not stuck out in the snow.

We usually have house church Sunday nights. Despite the snow we decided not to cancel because we were having a special Christmas dinner and the couple that had to come the farthest drives a sturdy truck. On their way, this couple encountered 15 or so cars stuck on the slick road near the home where we were gathering. So after dropping of his wife and toddler my friend along with one of the other guys went back out in the cold to go pull these cars out with his tow rope. Hours later and as dinner was just about ready they still weren't back. Just as dinner was being put on the table they tumbled in the door and said "meet Diedra - her car is hopelessly stuck - can she spend the nite?"

Diedra joined us for our turkey dinner spread. Although she was willing to stay on the couch, her mom ended up being able to drive 30 miles from Scappoose to retrieve her.
When her mom got there we had coffee all around. It was great. Snow and stranded travelers. There was a real sense that we were experiencing the true "spirit" of the season which to me is generousity and sharing the love of the family of God.

Ahh... you have snow!! We so rarely see it here. Granted, it can bring problems such as stuck cars, but it's so pretty... makes everything so quiet!
