"happy Thomas Crapper day." that was how i was greeted today by Jess. she is the co-worker from whom i stole the fudge. anyway, i'm a lover of knowing the origins of words. so now i know the etiology of one whole family of not so attractive words. "who's thomas crapper?" you ask. well, if you haven't guessed already, he was supposed to have been a plumber who invented a devise that was originally called the "water fall". i'm assuming that is where the term "Water Closet" came from. the rest is history. We all owe a great dept of graditude to Mr. Crapper. i suppose its fitting that we have a day in his honor.

actually, i was delighted to hear there was day of rememberance this week. did you hear that January 24th is THE MOST depressing day of the year? apparently statistics show that at least in the northern hemispere this day is a dark day for our psyche. it figures i suppose, christmas is over, the bills are coming in, its still dark and cold, and all the new year's resolutions have been broken.

so be assured, next year around this time there is something to look forward to. we can look beyond the most depressing day of the year and think of how different life would be if thomas crapper had never lived.
