Amazed

portland.jpg Friday night we had the DHOP crew gathered to have an extended time to pray for the August prayer events. The Lord had other plans. Going into this next month we had a sense that servant hood and reconciliation were keys issues. So how we ended up praying for the upcoming season of prayer was for us to serve one another first. We started out with washing each other’s feet. That was it, from that point we just worshipped and ministered to one another. There was even a time of asking for forgiveness. It was good to function is this way together because in the last planning gathering we covered some tough issues, which left me wondering if I had been offensive to everyone – I too got to ask for forgiveness.

We started out with me leading worship and as I did I looked over our motley crew in amazement. First all, it still awes me that they are so willing to follow me in worship. Then I thought as I continued to lead, they’re following a woman. So many places in the Body there are such trips about women even speaking. In so many ways I feel such freedom in this ministry to be who the Lord created me to be. This ministry was birthed with women at the helm, yet with each person that has come in whether male or female, there has never been a jostling for control of leadership or a questioning authority. That’s amazing as well.

So there I was sitting in awe at the beautiful broken body of Christ gladly kneeling low to wash each other’s feet. It was male and female, young and old (ages ranging from 8 yrs to the 50’s). There were tears, there were smiles, and there were words of appreciation and adoration. Having your feet washed is always such an awkward thing that I'm still not sure I completely grasp, but in this setting it seemed so natural. So when it was my turn I kept playing the guitar as Sheena washed my feet. Quite quickly her tears began to mingle with the warm water. I just sat and smiled even more amazed at this group of people with whom I’m walking.

As we turned to take communion is seemed clear that the ministry time was not over. By then Barb had brought out her expensive bottle of Myrrh oil with which she was anointing everybody’s feet. It just seemed that we were to continue in the vein of ministry verses passing the cup around. So as the room filled with fragrance of Myrrh, each one took a piece of bread & a cup to someone to pray for them. No one missed a beat we just took the precious elements of remembrance to another until everyone had been served.
It was so natural even normal. So again I looked out on this motley crew, the beautiful broken body of Christ, again in amazement. So willing to serve, so willing to love, so willing to see Jesus be made incarnate. There were more tears, more smiles, and more words of appreciation and adoration

Then we had cookies and the rest of the Pizza.

it was pretty amazing. i've never washed anyone's feet and never had anyone wash mine. funny how much easier it is to do the washing than to receive it. definately an incredible night.
