Into the English country side

portland.jpgSo task number one:
Turn a field, much like this into a space for camping, meeting, hanging and as it is turning out possibly escaping the rain. Monday, myself, Steve and Joel (YWAM guys) spent the afternoon marking off an area the size of 190 meters by 100 meters in this field. By the end of the day the rains came and we were soaked. Lovely English weather....

It wasn't so bad because Monday it was not that cold. Not true yesterday. After morning of office stuff we tried to pitch this large meeting tent so that out in the middle of that field we could have seminars and a chill out space. It poured again, this time there was a cold wind. We broke for dinner.

portland.jpgFortunately, the rain stopped and since it stays light even later than home we attempted to finish raising the tent around 8P. We had fun doing hard work. Even though the rain stopped we still got soaked. You know when you get wet and cold you just can't warm up, well that didn't make getting to sleep any easier. Yes, again I woke up at 3A just in time to watch the day begin. It was a lovely sunrise. When there is not cloud cover it starts get light around 3ish. I keep forgetting that right now I'm about the same latitude as Vancouver, BC.

The site of the event is a lovely YWAM base that was formerly an orphanage. There is a grassy field in the shape of an oval with houses and other sorts of buildings. There was once a factory on the campus where they had some sort of cottage industry. The philosophy of this group was that children were raised in family groups in and lived in the various homes. Some of the households were headed by married couples others by women who saw their life mission to raise these children. Its a lovely picturesque setting with a lovely heritage. So now that the sun has finally made an appearance and it seems that it is going to stay, this should be a really nice place to camp, hang out and seek the Lord.
